What Is the Pinterest Trends Tool?

Pinterest Trends is a dynamic, free, and easy-to-use resource for researching keywords and trending topics on Pinterest. The Pinterest Trends tool is a keyword tool that helps you see what people are searching for, the words and phrases they are using in search, and when (time of year) they are searching for it. To use the trends tool, you simply open the tool on Pinterest (under Analytics in the menu bar), type in a keyword or search term, and see what Pinterest tells you about that word or phrase.

How Does It Work?

The Trends Tool is an amazing resource for keyword research. Use the Trends Tool to explore the keywords that are most searched on Pinterest for your niche. When you search a particular term, Pinterest will immediately suggest a list of related terms (these are your keyword suggestions). And once you hit return, Pinterest will show you the most popular related search terms and phrases for the word you searched. It is really great insight into the terms searchers are using on Pinterest. Use these terms as main topics for content, in your content and on your Pins for better results in search.

I entered the search term “wedding decor” and this is the result I see. Note the graph shows when (time fo year) the term trends and also see the suggested related terms below. These are great Keywords and content topics.

Want even more info? Skip the first search section and scroll down a little…you will find a gold mine!

First, you will see trends in your country that match your pins. See the keywords below, and the percent of increase in search.

Then, Pinterest will share trending topics either by country (set your country at the top of the page) or for your audience (if you have a large enough audience/engagement).

Finally, when you scroll to the bottom, you will find an area where you can search based on a variety of filters. Search for growing trends, yearly trends, seasonal trends, and monthly trends. Then search further by interest, keyword, age, and gender. You will see all of the related trends in a comprehensive graph. (below). Add any combination of filters you like to find the current trending keywords. THESE are the terms you should consider in your content. For example, looking at the graph below, for a wedding blogger, a great blog post would be about classy elegant wedding dresses, burnt orange and sage green weddings, or Mexican modern weddings. OR, looking above at the interest for a home decor account, a great blog topic would be modern organic bathroom or modern teen boy bedroom. These are topics this audience is currently searching.

How to Use the Pinterest Trends tool for Content Planning

As I said above, if you are feeling stumped for content ideas, the Pinterest trends tool is a great way to plan your content. Grab one of the main ideas you find in trends and write a post about it.

Trends will also help you know WHEN to publish and pin content. Not only will it assist you with your keywords, but it will also inform you about when searchers are looking for specific content topics. For example, if you offer content for the Christmas holiday season, you will see on the Pinterest Trends Tool graph that searches start in July for this topic and grow over the following months. This is an amazing way to plan ahead and know when you should start creating content. Tip, it's probably earlier than you think.
